Lying Prophet ... December 26, 2005
As a species, we have a tendency to dispose unpleasantly of those who we later realize were trying to impart some truth that will perhaps change our perceptions of reality for the better. Then, once they're gone, we take whatever it was they were trying so depirately to tell us and put it into our own, unenlightened words. We try to skew it so that we can keep doing what we were already going to do. Of course, this doesn't always work out as we planned, hence, we create monstrosities like the Christian church.
A real prophet would understand this part of human nature and make a conscious effort to do and say things in a way that, when his or her words were skewed by others, they would be turned into what he or she was really trying to say. What the human race needs is a prophet who forsees that his or her words will be quoted and rephrased out of all existance and so says what he or she does not mean.
