Point ... March 17, 2006

So here is my brother's big art movie idea. You have a story that happens in a town called SOMETHING Point. Hence the name of the movie, right? Well, sort of. The plot concerns one person accusing another person of some wrongdoing. The accused, though the progression of the plot, not only convinces his/her accusor that he/she is not guilty of these supposed crimes but also manages to bring his/her accusor over to his/her point of view. Character one is an accusor. Character two is a teacher. (Before we go on, think about what a pointing hand can mean. Accusation. "This is YOUR fault." Teaching and instruction. "Do this." "Go here." "Observe this." Division between what is the self and what is not the self. "This is myself." "This is another." "This is part of everything that is outside me." "This is part of everything that is inside me." Togetherness. "This is part of everything that is not US." "This is us." Collective experience. "See this?" "We're together in seeing this, right?") Now, to take things a little further, my brother wants to include scenes throughout the movie in which characters are seen to be pointing at things or people for various purposes. Each major scene contains at least one image of a person pointing, even if it's just for half a second. Finally, each of these scenes will be shown in order, starting with a scene in which some character points directly towards the audience. The next scene will feature some character pointing at a 45 degree angle. The next, a 90 degree angle. On and on, all the way around in a circle of pointing fingers until the last scene comes back around to a character pointing directly at the audience again. All this pointing will not be made obvious. The scenes will make it necessary that the actors point in the proper direction. Until the last scene, the pointing hand will never be made the focus of the scene. Finally, though, in the last scene, right before we fade to black, that last pointing hand will be huge on the screen. The camera will zoom and zoom until the finger nearly fills the screen and the rest of the hand is blurred by foreshortening. Right before we fade to black, we are looking down the finger of a massive, all encompasing, pointing hand.

I dunno. Sounds like it might be interesting if the plot could be fleshed out a little more.
